Micro-credentials are an exciting new postgraduate offering at Maynooth University. Micro-credentials are short bursts of learning that offer the fastest route to upskilling or reskilling in a specific area.

With a part-time and flexible course structure, our micro-credentials work around learners’ commitments and schedule. Maynooth University micro-credentials are:

- Learners can earn from 5 to 15 ECTS credits following successful completion

Ms Barbara Woods, Course leader on the Brewing & Distilling Micro-Credential:
‘Designed in consultation with industry experts, this Micro-credential in Brewing & Distilling Science will cover the technical aspects of the B&D industry. The course was created in response to the strong demand for an analytical course to support the growing Irish craft brewing and whiskey industries. An ideal course for new entrants into B&D looking to upskill and develop applicable knowledge in quality control and analysis, to a craft brewer or whiskey distiller seeking a quality training opportunity to enhance employee skills. Participants will receive the benefit of all lectures being delivered by industry professionals, with hands-on practical experience from technical experts in our laboratories at Maynooth. Peer-to-peer learning and networking opportunities will strengthen business connections between participants and encourage an environment of knowledge sharing.’

Dr Katriona O'Sullivan, course leader on the Mentoring for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Micro-Credential:
‘This 12-week part-time course introduces mentors to the practical steps involved in building relationships. It introduces the basic concepts of equality, diversity and inclusion and walks mentors through the interactive and participatory processes that can be used to enhance positive relationship building. Upon completion of the micro-credential the mentor will have a broader understanding of the skills associated with mentoring and communicating effectively. The course involves learners’ participation in training and reflection, as well as engaging in a mentoring relationship with a young person..’

Dr Treasa Kenny, course leader on Mediation Micro-Credential:
‘This micro-credential is designed to facilitate participants to understand current concepts, policy and good practice relating to mediation. Participants will be introduced to the concept of mediation and the practical application of core skills and process. It will also introduce participants to the practice of mediation across a diverse range of situations, such as family, commercial, workplace, community and peace-building. The course will provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills to develop and demonstrate, through assessment, professionally- recognised mediation knowledge and skills. Successful completion of the course will provide participants with the opportunity to take a separate professional assessment of their skills. Successful completion of this assessment allows participants to apply to join the Mediators Institute of Ireland (MII).’
